False News is a tiny fraction of the massive misinformation campaign: Fake Analysis and intentional half reporting of the facts is the major issue

[1 November 2018] Making up lies and pushing "alternative facts" is a common insinuation against the political right wing.

But the larger, much much larger problem is half reporting of facts and misrepresentation of reality which the Left routinely engages in. There are many examples of this that we have been seeing for a long time: starting with liars like NDTV, Wire, Caravan, and Scroll down to YouTube channels like Dhruv Rathi's.

Like many other political trends that start in India and move westward, I am beginning to see this pattern emerge in global arena, specifically US.

I just watched a video by a YT channel called Rare Earth (which for some reason has "ColChrisHadfield" in its URL (probably trying to brand itself as a "scientific" channel)). In the title it promises to tell us about pyramid schemes: The Pyramid Scheme that Collapsed a Nation. Instead it turned out to be a rant against America, Right Wing, Capitalism, liberal values, and so on.

It takes a highly specific example of Albania: the phase of transition from Communism to Liberal Capitalism. Now, Albania was one of the dominos that fell after the collapse of USSR. The Communist Party there immediately allowed a multi party system, and in the fray a number of anti social scamsters found political patronage through corruption.

Now, to be clear, it was a simple issue; you suddenly cut loose a straitjacketed population, and because you never understood the variables at play, they turn the playground into a jungle. Of course it will take time for the population and government to adjust the system. To compliment the unscrupulous opportunistic villains, you have a population that doesn't understand the ABCs of capitalism, so of course they're highly vulnerable to scams like pyramid schemes.

But no, the analysis in the "Rare Earth" video doesn't provide any nuance. From Capitalism to Trump, it draws all kinds of comparisons. Not only does it not do any analysis whatsoever, not only does it use the history of the nation, it also actively hides the reality of Albania: that it is one of the fastest growing nations in its geography, charting >12% growth CONSTANTLY since 2008 till date. And this is directly attributed to the capitalist, open market, free economy policies of the country:
Albania is currently undergoing an intensive macroeconomic restructuring regime with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The need for reform is profound, encompassing all sectors of the economy. In 2000, the oldest commercial bank, Banka Kombetare Tregtare/BKT was privatized. In 2004, the largest commercial bank in Albania—then the Savings Bank of Albania—was privatised and sold to Raiffeisen Bank of Austria for US$124 million. Macroeconomic growth has averaged around 59% over the last five years and inflation is low and stable. The government has taken measures to curb violent crime, and recently adopted a fiscal reform package aimed at reducing the large gray economy and attracting foreign investment. [source]
Whatever weaknesses exist in the country right now are directly attributable to convoluted and complex governance and taxation and some cultural relics of socialism.

I was aware of the Albanian situation because I followed the rise of Balkan countries out of Soviet influence post USSR collapse, and therefore knew the wool they were trying to pull on my eyes. But there are thousands who viewed the "Rare Earth" video and thousands who appreciated (upvoted) the content.

This is tiny, minor example of the Massive Misinformation Campaign being foisted upon the world.

People are trying to confuse you. People are trying to project Trevor Noahs and John Olivers of the world as the ultimate arbiters of truth on your mind.

Like Simulacra and Simulacrum, they don't need to change the facts, just use bigoteering to change the way you interpret reality.
